Since the beginning of quantitative science, scientists have been dealing with two physical properties of bodies, which are charge and mass. Now, what really are these two physical properties of bodies? How are we supposed to understand them, and why do they exist in the first place?
In this brief article, I want to clearly and firmly inform you about the post-modern understanding of mass and charge. Whenever I use the concept of mass, I do so with an understanding of mass that is different from what classical physics teaches us. So, I want to share this new understanding with you.
What are charge and mass? How should we understand these two fundamental properties of matter? When you take up a piece of stone, you will feel some concreteness, and when you place a charged body like an electron in an accelerator, you will notice electrical motion.
All these manifestations push us to really want to know what these important properties of matter are and where they come from. Now, modern physics sees mass and charge as some sort of converse essences.
Mass and charge are applied the same in the two inverse square laws of physics, Newton’s law and Coulomb’s law, and both mass and charge occupy similar position in the inverse square law.
So, modern scientists view charge as the electrical analog of mass. Mass is seen as an important result of gravitational interactions, while charge is seen as a result of electrical interactions.
It is important that you take note of this, for in modern physics, mass is associated with gravity, while charge is associated with electromagnetism. This is how we understand mass and charge in modern physics. However, this understanding is not sufficient. Something is missing.
What is the missing component? Now, while we are certain that light or the electromagnetic wave is a non-mechanical wave in the universe and we associate charge with it, we are not certain if gravity can be a kind non-mechanical wave or not, and if it is, whether we can associate mass with it.
I really hope you can see the hidden missing component of classical and modern physics above, and which in my opinion further reveals our naivety in the understanding of the cosmos. Is gravity a non-mechanical wave just like light? If gravity isn’t a non-mechanical wave like light, then we cannot rightly place mass and charge as analogical essences.
Either of them must be out of place in its association with either light or gravity. This brings us to the new definitions of charge and mass this article introduces. For the first definition, this article establishes that charge is associated with the electromagnetic wave, and in fact, in post-modern physics, charge is defined as the electromagnetic content of a body.
This definition of charge may seem evident but it attempts to capture a subtlety that becomes evident when we move to the post-modern concept of mass. It is in mass that we find the missing component in our understanding of mass and charge.
For the second definition, what is mass in post-modern physics? In post-modern physics, mass is defined as the gravi-electromagnetic content of a body. This post-modern definition of mass is the mass I discuss in this blog and in Absolute Relativity, and not the vague classical definition of mass as “the quantity of matter in a body.” Let me at this point explain.
In the post-modern understanding of mass, mass is dissociated from gravity in a very fundamental way, and is then associated with the gravi-electromagnetic wave which is the true, second non-mechanical wave in the universe (and not gravity as afore suggested or implied).

It is common knowledge in scientific history that Newton sought to explain the mechanism of gravitational interaction but couldn’t, and concerning this, he made the famous phrase in the Scholium of the Principia “hypotheses non fingo”, meaning, I feign no hypothesis.
Newton couldn’t explain the mechanism of gravity or mass interaction because gravi-electromagnetic wave was missing in his theory. The gravi-electromagnetic wave is the non-mechanical wave that communicates the effects of mass across the universe and not gravity.
Gravi-electromagnetism is the new field of study that is as fundamental as electromagnetism, and it is the field of scientific investigation Newton needed in order to explain the mechanism of gravitational (or preferably gravi-electromagnetic) interactions.
So, when we take up a piece of rock, the concreteness we feel is that of gravi-electromagnetic wave. Mass is simply condensed gravi-electromagnetic field, while charge is simply condensed electromagnetic field. All these are relatable to the scientific truth that the universe is a standing gravi-electromagnetic field.
It is as though the two non-mechanical waves in the universe want to leave their imprint in matter, and it is more likely, since matter could not have been created without either of these two non-mechanical waves as its major content.
Furthermore, I have seen that modern physics does not take charge as a fundamental constant in the sense that it exists. In the standard model of physics, we find fractions of the fundamental charge such as ±1/29 and others.
These ratios of the fundamental charge e do not exist in the universe. What has carried us along this erroneous path is the wrong supposition of the existence of the weak and the strong forces.
So, to account for the nuclear force or nuclear stability, we have proposed particles with (non-existent) charges that are numerical ratios of the fundamental charge. Now, besides the fact that no other charge besides the fundamental charge has been discovered, there is another reason why these exotic charges don’t exist in the first place.
In the universe, the electromagnetic force and the gravitational force are the only two effects producing essences in the universe, the weak and the strong forces do not exist. The universe only knows light and gravity!
The principle of universal equivalence which informs us that the weak equivalence principle and the strong equivalence principle are equal absolves physics of its need for the weak and strong forces.
We have wrongly supposed the existence of the weak and strong forces and as a result exotic charges because we did not know about the principle of universal equivalence. In post-modern physics, the principle of universal equivalence replaces our supposition of the weak and the strong forces.
The universal equivalence principle plays a major role in the structure and stability of the atom. I will discuss this in my future articles, and you can find a lot about this in my e-book and also in the article below:
The above article will enlighten you about the true nature of galactic cosmic rays from a new post-modern understanding of mass. So, while mass can have different magnitudes, charge has only one fundamental magnitude which is e (shown above).
Moreso, in post-modern physics, charge is absolved of its negative and positive connotations. This follows as a result of the post-modern theory of electromagnetism which now informs us that the acceleration of light governs the electromagnetic interaction of electrical bodies and not charge.
So, since the acceleration of light governs the electromagnetic interactions of charged bodies, then the concepts of negative and positive charges are of no further physical significance.
The concepts of negative and positive charges have now been relegated as concepts with only numerical or relational significance that on their own do not produce any governing physical effects on electrical bodies.
Now, charge is due to electromagnetic wave and this kind of electromagnetic wave is accelerating light and not speeding light. This new understanding of charge and mass is critical in post-modern physics.
Even the Higgs field which is supposed to give all matter mass is simply not true. The gravi-electromagnetic wave gives matter mass. This is the way of the unified field, and we now know assuringly the origins of charge and mass. We now know where mass is in matter and its very nature.
